Interactive e-learning content to boost engagement

Interactive e-learning content is essential to boost engagement throughout a training course. This can be achieved via Storyline blocks, clean design, knowledge checks, and even creative quizzes.

People are tired of the same things. No. More. Blue links. Boy, developers are tired of hearing that too!

But creatives are still insisting on dropping links because they are maybe running to hit a tight deadline, the project’s budget was stripped, or just because it’s the easy way.

Which is completely understandable.

The problem is, that your learners might (most probably will) glaze over your training course.

And you don’t want your precious time to be taken for granted!

Let’s take a look at:

  • Why you should make learning content interactive
  • How to create interactive e-learning content
  • Make your online courses addictive with creativity

Why you should make e-learning content interactive

My boss’ dad once told me he was grateful there were eLearning companies. Being a white-collar employee in the 90s meant having boring one-size-fits-all training. They were constantly glazing over important content that they needed to reinforce!

I’m talking about the 90s but, in reality, this still happens. People just download any PowerPoint template, drop 3, 6-line paragraphs per slide, and call it “compliance training”.

Please don’t!

We’re in social media times. The TikTok era. However you want to call it.

My point is, people get to see more interactivity every day. And if they just clock in and see blue links, talking head videos, and 10-line paragraphs… they won’t be engaged.

What I mean is branching scenarios, knowledge checks, personalized learning experiences, simulations, games… things to improve knowledge retention.

I’m talking about keeping your learners motivated and focused.

They become participants, not just observers. Active participation helps learners process information more deeply, leading to better memory and recall of key concepts.

It’s not bells and whistles!

Also, has it not happened to you that you learn a useful technique in the workspace but you forget it in a week?

Work-Learning actually realized that, after conducting a study, learners tend to forget about 50% to 80% of what they’ve learned after one day. This can increase to about 97-98% within a month of learning.

Here’s the silver lining: with interactive e-learning content, your learners’ retention will be on-point! After all, it’s easier retain information we put in practice.

I think I convinced you on why it’s important to have interactive e-learning content. Let’s see how you can implement that in your e-learning courses!

How to create interactive e-learning content

Take Blue Creazione for example: they add gamification through VR, AR interactions, and character animations.

Through Unity 3D and UX solutions, they help their clients achieve highly interactive content with the latest technology.

You can try adding custom animations and live action video in your e-learning content. It’s just not about “making it pop”: it’s about giving your learners a break from their corporate world within the limits of your budget.

You don’t have to spare any expenses just to create interactive e-learning content!

But just think about this: what do employees do after clocking out? Some go jogging, others play video games… but most love to binge-watch.

So why not use a series approach for your corporate training instead?

  • A content series approach allows learners to ask questions and for you to go deeper into specific content (interactivity: check).
  • You can also use your course in bite-sized modules, either as a marketing (if you’re planning on selling your course) or an HR strategy (efficiency: check).
  • Your employees will likely feel less overwhelmed if they have smaller courses and videos to tackle! (engagement: check)

Is there a 60-hour training you can now divide into six… or even ten sections?

Make your online courses addictive with creativity

Let me walk you through this ELH challenge we did a while ago.

Who hasn’t gone through emotional intelligence training in their workspace?

What’s more, one with “back” and “next” buttons?

There’s nothing wrong with these resources. The problem lies in your employees turning immune to the arrows and skipping content just for the sake of finishing the training.

For this reason, at bylittle, we wanted to go above and beyond the “next” button while keeping the interaction functional for every learner.

How about making an emotional elevator where we could explore one topic per level? It could make the training more fun while we reimagine how navigation could work for the learners.

Check out how we do it!
